I'm at a computer, playing with some code for the cute robots that we're working with for a "fun" lesson at the end of the year. I'm tired, and I check the time on the computer to see how long until I get to leave. Still a while. Exams are cancelled this year, and I am enjoying the last few days before I never need to return to this school again.
My teacher comes up to me and leans down, his mousy features next to mine. He speaks in refined southern English accent. He asks whether or not I need a grade 9 in computer science (the highest grade) - will it matter for what I want to do next year?
It doesn't. I tell him that, that I'm not applying for computer science or any subjects that are very related. Even as I do I wonder if it's the right thing to do. He nods and smiles, and says how he was just checking. The grades this year were assessed by teachers, this was the last bit of his assessment.
Later, my mother thinks I should have said that I will be applying to a very competitive univisersity in two years, and that even these exams are considered. I hope I get in.
